Events for the term

As promised, here’s the scoop on some of the upcoming events this term.

First of all, the French Midnight Breakfast is on February 2 to celebrate the Pancake Festival in France that day. Be at the International House at 10 pm to celebrate this delicious occasion.

We also have the Cultural Festival coming up on February 21. This is one of our biggest events of the year and we want to get as many people involved as possible. If you want to represent your country by setting up a table at the Festival or you just have some questions about the event, e-mail iscexecs@wpi.edu. We will give you a small budget to have snacks from your home country available at your table.

A whole lot of updates

We have a number of events planned over the course of the next few weeks that should take us right through most of A-term.

First, there will be a General Body Meeting on Tuesday, September 16th in the Mid Century Room in the Campus Center at 5 p.m. We know that a number of people had difficulty finding the room for our first GBM so if you weren’t able to attend that, here’s a chance to catch up on what you missed.

Also on Tuesday is the first Midnight Breakfast of the year. Come to the International House at 10:30 p.m. on September 16th and meet up with friends while snacking on great Vietnamese food.

Another upcoming event is the Mini Cultural Festival. Taking place on Saturday, September 20th on the quad over Parents Weekend, this is the perfect opportunity for you to represent your country to the WPI community and their families. We will provide money for you to buy snacks from your home country and share it with the rest of us and let you decorate your booth however you wish. We would also like to find people who are willing to perform songs/dances/anything from your country at this event. If you are interested in any of this, please e-mail iscexecs@wpi.edu.

Last but definitely not least, we have our trip to Six Flags on September 27th! Tickets are $28 for ISC members and $30 for non-members. Sign-up at the International House today!

Welcome to A-Term!

Now that classes have started, it seems that everybody is already starting to get busy with their course load. Since A-term has now officially begun, there are a few points we’d like to cover.

First, thanks to everybody who was involved with International Pre-Orientation to make it such a success. That goes both to the new international freshmen and the peer mentors who took time off their summer to help out. Also, you can view pictures from Orientation on this site’s media page.

Second, the ISC trip to Boston is this Saturday, August 30. It’s $3 for ISC members and $5 for non-members. Sign up by Friday at the very latest at the International House.

Third, if you would like to join ISC but have not done so, you can at any time in the International House. There is a $3 fee for lifetime membership but remember that you’ll get discounts on plenty of ISC events such as the International Dinner.

And finally, good luck to everyone for the rest of the academic year. It looks like 2008-09 is already off to a great start!
